What is this site for?

This website provides a home for the Open Access website maps and the new and updated Countryside Code. It also provides a 'gateway' to the English countryside with information on what you can do and where you can go to find out more.

What has changed on this website?

The website has been redesigned to help you find the section you need more easily. After encountering difficulties using the Open Access map search facility, a series of rolling improvements have been carried out over the last year, including improvements to the search facility, map zoom levels and an overhaul of the restrictions display.

What improvements are being made to the Open Access Map pages?

An additional project to improve the usability of the maps is now underway and results should be seen towards the end of 2006.

What if I still have problems using the Open Access maps?

Make sure you have read the instructions and the help facility on the maps carefully. If you are still having problems, try using the feedback form on the Contact Us page or alternatively contact our contact centre in Belfast 0845 1003298 or email us .

What is Open Access and how do I find out more about it?

Open Access is a new right to walk freely across mapped land without having to stick to paths. This website is the home of the Open Access online maps, to find out more visit the Open Access pages on this website.

How do I send Natural England my comments on this website?

If you wish to provide feedback on the website or offer any suggestions, please use our Contact Us page. Please let us know what you think and suggestions of what you’d like to see more of. We are also looking for more walks and suitable links for the Countryside Directory.

The Walks In Your Region section has a number of downloadable walks, links to walking websites and the online Open Access maps showing land where you can walk freely.

Yes, the Education Resources pages within the Countryside Code section have everything that you need.

Can I have a link to my website?

We cannot put links to small private companies e.g. Bed and Breakfasts. If you think your site would be an appropriate addition to the Countryside Directory , send us an email and we will consider your request.
